Balogh, R. (2010), "Model of the Ball-Tracing Robot", Metalurgija/Metallurgy., April/June, 2010. Vol. 49(2), pp. 136-140.
Abstract: Model of the simple ball-following robot is presented. The robot with a camera follows a white ping-pong ball, trying to hold its position in the centre of the camera image. Using the classical control theory we try to explain and predict the behaviour of the mobile robot controlled by an agent-space architecture controller. Some problems with different control algorithms are described, design of the simple feedback proportional controller is compared with the agent-space architecture. With such simple model of the robot we can successfully describe its behaviour and moreover we can predict its changes depending on parameter modification.

Abstract: V rámci programu cezhraničnej spolupráce sme sa venovali vzdelávaniu stredoškolskej mládeže v oblasti robotiky. Hoci je to technicky náročná oblasť, vyžadujúca široké znalosti a hlboké sústredenie, podarilo sa nám dosiahnuť preprekvapujúce výsledky. Študenti z Bratislavy a z Viedne realizovali spoločné projekty, navštívili zaujímavé miesta. Na spoločných rakúsko-slovenských vyučovacích hodinách sme získali mnoho skúseností, ktoré sú zhrnuté v našom príspevku.

Abstract: In our article we deal with the replacement of the pneumatic actuator of the valve with an electric one and its influence on the controller design. In second part of the article we show possible undesirable effects of integral behaviour of the electric actuator on PID controller parameters, namely its D part and its consequence on the whole system.

Abstract: Lectures for the Computer Architecture are conceived to get the students acquaint with the architecture and basic properties of the computers in general with emphasis to the basic building components and their properties. We created a set of closely interconnected lessons and exercises on the embedded systems. The idea of lectures is to show an implementation issues and to show an interconnection between the theory and practice. The basic ideas of the lectures and our experiences from its application are presented. We also present the problems with the digital implementation of the continuous controller, proper choice of the sampling period and replacing the output D/A converter with a PWM signal generator. Results and the comparison of the measured parameters with theoretical ones are presented.

Abstract: In our article we present the problems of the creation of the learning materials for the distance learning courses at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (FEI STU), especially in the area of automation. The main goal is to equalise distance learning with the regular studies at the FEI STU. First experiences unambiguously show that this goal requires more than classical university textbooks and it is necessary to create in this area new

multimedia-based learning materials for self-directed learning. Such materials often contain also the interactive data carrier with textual parts supporting the understanding of the textbook lectures and supplemental materials like images, presentations and videos. We include also the datasheets, technical parameters and tables for automation devices. Important components of distance learning systems are experimental workplaces for development of the skills with automation technology operation. We describe

some of supporting materials created for lectures of the Control systems instrumentation taught at the FEI STU at the bachelor?s level. We describe the experimental workplaces with strain-gages and position sensors. They are accessible not only locally but also remotely through the Internet.

Abstract: Boe-Bot mobile robot is a commercially available kit by the Parallax, Inc. We will introduce

its basic properties and how it enables very easy and quick introductions to the robotics.

We present some programming examples, its using and easy extending. We mention possibilities

for replacement in hobby or amateur areas. After the presentation there will be 2 hours workshop

with possibility to work with the robot.

Abstract: We summarize, categorize, and analyze the various kinds of educational robotics initiatives in Slovakia and share our experience we have obtained while organizing the contests and preparing non-contest robotics educational activities. We argue that the teamwork is highly undervalued in the current school system, and that robotics contests and project work are a very suitable platform to strengthen team-based education. We describe a proposal for a robotics module curriculum for the 1st year of informatics for the secondary grammar school. We shortly describe the tools and platforms of noncontest initiatives that our group is involved in.

Abstract: In this year, the 13th competition in building and programming robots for

elementary and secondary schools -RoboCup Junior was held in Slovakia and it is the pilot

year for the FIRST LEGO League in Slovakia. Similarly, the association Robotika.SK

organized already the 8th year of robotic contest Istrobot. The main purpose of these

educational initiatives is to foster the interest of the young generation in the technological

and scientific fields, and to provide them with the platforms that allow deepening of their

knowledge and skills in mechanics, electronics, informatics, and acquiring a valuable

experience in team cooperation. The article compares and evaluates the aspects and

differences of inidividual contests and analyzes some guidelines for the pedagogical work in

after-school and school educational activities.

Abstract: The mobile robots contest Istrobot is organized annually by the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. The contest is open for anybody who wants to compete in one of the four categories. In the Linefollower category, the task is to track the black line on the whiteboard. In the MicroMouse category, it is necessary to find the right way through the maze. MiniSumo category relies on two robots which try to push its opponent out of the circular ring. Abstract: Robotnačka is an autonomous drawing robot used during the teaching of the basic Logo language programming. It can be used also as an experimental platform in our robotic lab with remote access over the internet. Laboratory can contain maximum three robots. Together with the basic version we offer also one equipped with the gripper and one with the wireless camera. Laboratory can be accessed 24/7 and enables the easy adoption of robotics topics into the standard mathematics, programming or physics curricullums.

Abstract: Robotnačka je autonómny mobilný kresliaci robot, ktorý sa používa pri výuke základov programovania v jazyku Logo. Dá sa však využiť aj ako experimentálna platforma, v našom prípade v robotickom laboratóriu s možnosťou riadenia robotov cez Internet. V laboratóriu môžu byť umiestnené až tri roboty, okrem základnej verzie aj model doplnený chápadlom a model s bezdrôtovou kamerou. Laboratórium je prístupné nepretržite 24 hodín 7 dní v týždni a umožňuje začleniť jednoduchým spôsobom problematiku robotiky do vyučovania matematiky, programovania a iných predmetov.

Abstract: The study focus on the problems of the acquiring and designing the image of the robotics. The task is to read out of the image of the entrance equipment and to analyze the process, on which we can allocate the location of the mobile robot of an unfamiliar form in the familiar environment. The result is the position of the robot in the model environment with the possibility to remit this position to the visualization program. At the some time it is possible to save the robot?s movement in video format and to analyze it again.

Abstract: Robotnačka je mobilný kresliaci robot, ktorý je riadený z počítača bezdrôtovo. Je vybavený ovládateľným kresliacim perom, takže je možné robota používať napr. pri výuke základov programovania v jazyku Logo. Dá sa však využiť aj ako experimentálna platforma a pomocou pôvodnej knižnice ho možno ovládať z prakticky ľubovoľného programovacieho jazyka (Pascal, C, Logo,...). V článku popíšeme jeho základné vlastnosti a spôsob používania.

Abstract: A survey of robotic competitions all over the world, their short history and present state is given. Contests are classified according to their difficulty and conditions. Typical competition categories, also with interesting robot constructions are described. Sense, advantages and disadvantages of contests are discussed, especially concerning educational purposes. At the same time, our experiences with organising the contest Istrobot are presented.
